2022 Junior Firefighter Academy
SD46, BC Wildfire, and Local Fire Departments Collaborate to offer students a one-of-a-kind work experience program.
Spring break 2022 marks the inaugural Junior Firefighter Academy! School District #46 in collaboration with local fire departments and BC Wildfire have developed a comprehensive work experience program for grade 11 and 12 students. These students will learn new skills in ladders, extinguishers, hose handling, fire suppression, wildfire suppression, and auto extrication from local instructors.
“I am always excited to introduce firefighting to the newest generation of caring public, and help them grow and develop until they eventually surpass the threshold that we currently see as the industry’s highest standard” – Stephen Gemmell, Wildfire Technician, Sunshine Coast Fire Zone.
Generous donations from Wholesale Fire & Rescue Ltd. and Unifor 1119 have ensured that these students will have an unforgettable experience. “We are so excited for these students and thrilled we were given this opportunity from the school district. The skills that these students will learn that week will carry on with them forever” – Steven Achterberg, Sechelt Fire Department.
Good Luck to the Junior Firefighter Academy Class of 2022!
